In order to bounce his run outside, Croskey-Merritt must make an early cut because the defensive end on the outside crashes down the line before the pulling tight end can reach him.
The linebacker who was supposed to be scooped up by the double team read the play effectively and moved swiftly around them to fill the path as Croskey-Merritt makes that cut. Additionally, he discovers that two linebackers are unblocked in the area where he wants to bounce his run because the right tackle is having trouble blocking the second linebacker. In order to become vertical, Croskey-Merritt takes a few steps outside toward the edge and then makes another really sharp cut back inside. He shifts course so smoothly without sacrificing speed that the linebackers who aren’t blocked are left behind.
The safety tries to work over from the back side, but Croskey-Merritt breaks past the line of scrimmage unharmed. Feeling the safety approaching, he twists out of the tackle, gaining more yards before the deep safety brings him down. Croskey-Merritt took two quick cuts to bounce the run and then slice back inside and get vertical, before spinning out of a tackle to get as many yards as possible out of a broken play that shouldn’t have had much success.
In my opinion, Croskey-Merritt is the kind of runner that she is. I believe that the Commanders fan base has certain misconceptions regarding him. He’s not really a power back who runs over opponents and powers his way to additional yards, despite what I feel many fans think. Although his top speed isn’t very high, he possesses amazing burst and acceleration, along with a superb jump cut that allows him to find his way through even the smallest openings and accelerate out of them. He’s considerably more elusive.

Regarding whether the Commanders have caught up to the Super Bowl winners, we can say with confidence that Daniels and the offense seem to have improved, even above the high-scoring level of the previous season.
