The National Search and Rescue Agency reports that 18 pupils are still unaccounted for.
Rescue crews pulled more bodies from the debris on Sunday, bringing the total number of fatalities from a school building collapse in Indonesia’s East Java region to 45.
The number of fatalities has increased to 45 from 37 earlier in the day, according to the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), which reports that rescuers recovered an additional 19 victims from the debris on Sunday.
Yudhi Bramantyo, the head of operations for Basarnas, informed reporters that 104 people had survived and 149 people had been rescued by rescuers, of whom 45 were declared dead.
According to the Islamic boarding school’s student attendance record, this reduced the number of missing people to 18, however the exact number is still unknown.
Although teams have removed more than 60% of the debris, they still had to deal with a piece of concrete that was attached to a nearby building.
104 of the 167 students who were impacted were deemed to be safe, according to Abdul Muhari, head of the Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center of the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB). One survivor has been sent to another facility, 89 have been released, and 14 are undergoing treatment at hospitals.
At least five pupils were killed and approximately 100 were injured when the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in the town of Sidoarjo fell on Monday, engulfing hundreds of students, primarily teenage boys.
