The ‘new Kevin De Bruyne’ is allegedly still a target for Manchester City, even after their initial attempt to recruit the €70 million star was defeated.
The search is underway for De Bruyne’s possible replacement as he concludes ten years at City. According to Italian reports, Pep Guardiola’s team’s €60 million (£50.5 million) offer for AC Milan striker Tijjani Reijnders was turned down; the Italian powerhouses are reportedly want €70 million (£58.9 million).
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, through Sport Witness, City stepped up their efforts on Thursday to sign the Dutchman “immediately.” After that, they made a bigger bid, but it reportedly fell short of Milan’s asking price. The 26-year-old is primarily a center midfielder, but Guardiola is apparently eager to make him the “new De Bruyne.”
According to reports, the Netherlands international canceled a planned vacation, which the Italian media interpreted as a clear indication that a move to the Etihad is imminent. He reportedly views the move as a professional advancement and would be thrilled to work for Guardiola.
With matches against Finland and Malta scheduled for June 7 and June 10, respectively, Reijnders will probably be playing for the Netherlands before a Milan to City transfer occurs.
