A high-ranking member of Manchester United’s management hopes to name Luis Enrique the team’s next permanent manager, but as a different agreement moves forward, Michael Carrick appears to be the front-runner.
Enrique has a good case to be the world’s greatest manager at the moment. The 55-year-old Spaniard, who previously won a treble with Barcelona in 2014–15, led PSG to a historic quadruple last season.
There have been numerous reports since the turn of the year regarding Enrique potentially taking charge at Man Utd over the summer.
Before deciding who should guide the team ahead, the Red Devils are doing a thorough evaluation, and many would argue that Enrique is the best candidate.
But according to Fabrizio Romano’s reporting on his YouTube channel, Enrique is reportedly “advancing” toward writing new terms in Paris.
According to Romano, Enrique is admired by Manchester United, and one club official even “dreams” of recruiting him.
However, with Enrique expected to stay in Paris for at least a few more years, it appears like Michael Carrick, the interim manager, will be hired permanently.
According to Romano, “there is someone at Manchester United who is a huge fan and dreams of Luis Enrique as Manchester United manager one day.”
“There is some truth to the reports that have been made regarding Enrique and Manchester United over the past two or three months, in that certain Man Utd employees believe that Enrique may one day be the team’s manager.
“But nothing more than this, as his current priorities are PSG, negotiating his new contract, and, of course, the field.”
Romano continued by saying that Man Utd is aware that Enrique is nearing a new contract in Paris, which gives Carrick an advantage in his pursuit of a permanent position.
Additionally, the newspaper claims that Carrick’s work thus far has impressed the United executives who will ultimately make the final managerial decision.
“Man Utd are very happy with the work done so far by Carrick,” he added. Carrick is not under suspicion.
To choose the appropriate course of action for the managerial problem, they are using an internal method.
“We are aware that they must choose a permanent manager for 2026–2027 and beyond; this is still the plan, and they continue to discuss it internally, but they have complete faith in Michael Carrick.”
