In an attempt to salvage what remains of the worldwide multi-time champion’s career with the Stamford-based promotion, WWE executives are attempting to re-sign him. Ahead of possible free agency, more information about the situation is being made public.
After over 20 years of wrestling all across the world, Santos Escobar inked a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment on August 14, 2019. Although Escobar’s supporters have been upset with his usage for at least the past year, the three-time CMLL and three-time AAA champion took his Legado Del Fantasma faction to WWE’s main roster in October 2022. Santos changed his appearance a few months ago, which stoked optimism.
Only two of the Son of the Ghost’s seven 2025 wrestling contests have been one-on-one encounters. Escobar fell to Rey Fenix in early May after losing to LA Knight on SmackDown in February when the United States Championship was up for grabs, in addition to the Royal Rumble and the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Then, in trios matches, Legado Del Fantasma lost 1-2 to AAA stars. Escobar stoked suspicion and rumors shortly after Andrade left WWE with another cryptic tweet, and now that he is about to become a free agent, insiders say there is truth to the remarks.
It is rumored that WWE and Santos Escobar will part ways tonight.
An more WWE Superstar, Santos Escobar, has been disclosed to be in a contract year, and his contract is set to expire tonight. Today, Fightful Select revealed that the former NXT Cruiserweight Champion’s contract will expire “very soon,” and that it was increasingly likely that he would not be around for much longer. Nevertheless, Escobar’s contract is set to expire at midnight tonight, according to PWInsider.
Escobar’s contract is about to expire today, and although WWE officials have made attempts to retain him, he turned down the offer. The initiatives apparently resulted in increased compensation. Escobar will be free to sign with anybody he wants at midnight, so if he does depart World Wrestling Entertainment, he should be in great demand in the wrestling community.
Since SmackDown on August 9, 2024, Escobar has not prevailed in a singles match. With a United States Championship at stake, he defeated Andrade that evening, but two weeks later, he was unable to unseat LA Knight.
