After nine years of marriage, tennis player Ana Ivanovic and former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger have split up. The couple’s lawyer released a statement confirming their split.
Due to their success in their respective sports, Ivanovic and Schweinsteiger were one of the most recognizable couples in the sports world. In 2019, they got married in Venice in front of a flurry of media.
In 2014, while the former German international was playing for Bayern Munich for a long time, the pair first met.
While Ivanovic was starting to wind down her illustrious tennis career, Schweinsteiger transferred to Manchester United a year later in 2015.
After Ivanovic, who famously won the French Open in 2008, retired from tennis in December 2016, they were married in July 2016.
Their youngest son was born less than two years ago, and the World Cup winner and former French Open champion share three sons.
The divorce between Ana Ivanovic and her husband, Bastian Schweinsteiger, has been confirmed by her attorney.
Since 2014, the World Cup winner and the former world number one have been together.
Nine years ago, in the midst of intense media attention, Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic tied the knot in Venice.
Their third son’s name has not been made public, although their first two kids are named Leon and Luca, respectively.
Christian Schertz, Ivanovic’s agent, declared that the couple was divorcing because of “irreconcilable differences” following months of rumors about their sex.
The attorney then emphasized that the pair will not be making any more statements and requested privacy for the couple and their kids, according to BILD.
Due to the strain that their divergent lifestyles were placing on their marriage, Mail Sport claimed in April that the pair was in a “deep crisis.”
Schweinsteiger’s various punditry roles required him to travel frequently, so Ivanovic is believed to have spent more time in her home country of Serbia, where her family in Belgrade helped her take care of her kids.
The Laver Cup, which was held in Berlin in September, was the last time Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic were seen in public.
Later following year, the couple posted a picture of themselves visiting a Christmas market on Instagram, but after that, they stopped posting about their family life.
According to German media, Schweinsteiger was spotted kissing his purported new girlfriend in June. It is thought that he knows her because their kids go to the same school.
Before retiring in late 2016, Ivanovic won 15 career titles, including the French Open (shown).
The last time Ivanovic and her spouse were seen together in public was at the Laver Cup.
Schweinsteiger and his new girlfriend are said to have taken several vacations together.
The three children that the divorced couple has together are all boys, with the youngest being only two years old.
The Bulgarian woman, who was only referred to as “Silva” in the German press, had accompanied the 40-year-old to Mallorca after the two are believed to have taken a vacation together in Morocco.
Ivanovic was most recently in London for Wimbledon, the Grand Slam tournament where the former world No. 1 ranked 18 years ago and advanced to the semifinals.
