The Celtics’ most recent player to play through illness or injury during the postseason is Brown.
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported that Boston Celtics standout Jaylen Brown played through a partially torn meniscus in his right knee during the team’s playoff run and the last month of the regular season.
This week, Brown’s condition will be assessed to see if surgery is required to fix his knee issue.
Since his knee started to hurt in March, the Celtics star has been getting pain injections. As the Celtics attempted to defend their championship in the postseason, he persevered despite missing the final three games of the regular season.
Brown finished Boston’s postseason journey with an average of 22.3 points and 7.2 rebounds. The team lost to the New York Knicks on Friday night in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
He was among a number of Celtics who suffered injuries throughout the postseason. In Game 4 of the series against the Knicks, Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles tendon, and he will be out for at least nine months. During Game 1 of the series against New York, center Kristaps Porzingis experienced what he described as “an energy crash” from a pre-existing illness, while Jrue Holiday fought a hamstring problem in round one.
